Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal

The aim of root canal treatment (also called "endodontic" treatment) is to save a tooth that has been damaged due to decay, disease, large restorations or injury. With the new technology of rotary endodontic preparation, the procedure is more efficient and comfortable. Root canal treatment is successful in most cases. It is recommended a crown is placed on the tooth after root canal to help seal the tooth and prevent future reinfection or breakages. If you take good care of the treated tooth with regular preventive care and maintenence, it can last for many years and possibly for the rest of your life.  However, root canal treatment may not be appropriate in some cases, and extraction and tooth replacement may be the best option.

Symptoms which can indicate a Root Canal is necessary include:

    • Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold liquids
    • Tooth sensitivity to sweets
    • Tooth pain to biting pressure
    • Impulsive or throbbing toothache
    • Constant or intermittent tooth pain
    • Severe tooth pain
